Memory loss affects thousands of people every year. Memory loss is often attributed to "getting older.” In reality, age-related memory loss is a fallacy. The latest scientific research indicates that memory loss is actually a direct result of decreased use of the memory centers within the brain.
At first, memory changes often appear subtle. For example, you may walk into a room and forget why you are there, or recognize someone you have met before, but can’t recall their name. Early symptoms of memory loss may progress to more significant memory loss. The good news is that the latest documented research indicates that specific areas of the brain, primarily the temporal lobes, can be activated to improve memory.
Anatomically, the brain is comprised of a right and a left cortex. Each cortex contains an area called the temporal lobe. The temporal lobes are responsible for retaining specific types of short- and long-term memory. For example, the left temporal lobe is most related to remembering word lists, processing verbal language, and recalling language spoken in a monotone voice. The right temporal lobe is affiliated with remembering familiar events as well as processing non-verbal information. The right temporal lobe will house memory such as voice-intonated (singing) memory. If one portion of the brain isn’t working at its maximum, memory as well as other functions of the temporal lobe may be affected. This would also include one’s ability to smell and hear.

With the rise of obesity and the increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes occurring in children, many parents are now faced with helping an overweight child. This may not be a daunting as first seems and here are some simple, but effective steps to take to help your child develop eating habits and active lifestyle that will assist improve their health.
Be supportive
· Tell your child that he or she is loved, is special, and is important. Children’s feelings about themselves often are based on their parents’ feelings about them.
· Accept your child at any weight. Children will be more likely to accept and feel good about themselves when their parents accept them.
· Listen to your child’s concerns about his or her weight. Overweight children probably know better than anyone else that they have a weight problem. They need support, understanding, and encouragement from parents.
Encourage healthy eating habits
· Buy and serve more fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, or canned). Let your child choose them at the store.
· Buy fewer soft drinks and high fat/high calorie snack foods like chips, cookies, and candy. These snacks are OK once in a while, but keep healthy snack foods on hand too and offer them to your child more often.
No commentsThe Health and Nutrition Industry has come about as peoples awareness of the damage they have done to their bodies over the years becomes more apparent, both physically and through scientific evidence. Whats more they want to do something about-now!!
I know, I’ve been there and as a Baby Boomer we, in our millions around the globe, are doing what we can to turn our health around for the better. Having read numerous articles gleaned from newspapers, magazines, advertisements, the web and from fellow ‘’ezinearticle'’ contributors, many people are searching for a better lifestyle today.
My wife Cath and I decided to do something about it and sooner rather than later. Rather than talking about it, moaning about it, worrying about it, we chose to improve our health and our lifestyle through informed and better choices. We work from home now part time in the Health and Nutrition Industry having had our health improved with nutritional supplements and by adjusting our diets, so that we have both lost weight and feel great for it. Your health improves by first making a decision and then doing something about it.
No commentsMaybe you losing weight comes down to the simple question, "Do you think you are worthy to?"
My name is Greg Ryan. For twenty years I have counseled thousands of people on weight loss. Athletes, obese individuals, movie stars, and kids. No matter who the person is, no matter where I am in the world, I believe much success in weight loss comes down to people believing in their hearts that they are worthy to feel good. If you think about it, this state of mind is really sad.
After all these years of consulting health clubs I have determined one thing: our problem with obesity, diabetes and heart disease lies not in the numbers on the fitness and medical charts, but in the approach to them. Your weight is where it is because of your beliefs behind your behaviors. Until you figure them out, you will be a rollercoaster riding the scale up and down. In other words, it comes down to your self image of yourself.
1. Here are some suggestions in order to change your self image long term.
2. Determine HOW you are motivated
3. Determine the REASONS behind the unwanted behaviors.
No commentsFirst showers of monsoon are heartily welcomed by everyone after experiencing the scorching heat of summer. But monsoons reduce the immunity of our body and make us susceptible to many diseases which are commonly associated with this season. It is time for us to keep our body resistant against diseases by boosting our immunity and taking precautions against these diseases.
The diseases associated with monsoon are malaria, jaundice, gastro intestinal infections like typhoid and cholera. Apart from these, viral infections like cold and cough also make their presence felt.
Puddles of water formed due to rain become breeding grounds for mosquitoes which spread diseases like malaria and dengue fever. As a precautionary measure against mosquito bite born diseases one can use mosquito net around the bed which is better choice to mosquito repellants like mats and coils. A mosquito repellant cream is the best choice when you are away from home. Fumigating the house with smoke of dried neem leaves in evenings for 1-2 minutes is an excellent ayurvedic method to keep mosquitoes away.
No commentsMost parents’ think their children are eating a fairly healthy and if not they throw their hands up in the air and give up. They then ply their children with multivitamins. No it’s not a bad thing however, many children think that vitamins are candies, especially now that they come in gummi candy, gumballs, and cute animal and cartoon character shapes. - This poses a serious issue because if they are in children’s reach they could be "sneaking" extra tablets without you knowing it. Since many children’s multivitamins are fortified with iron it could cause an overdose. If you even suspect that your child has ingested too many call your local poison control center immediately and get your child to an emergency room immediately. An overdose of multivitamins with iron could cause your child to become seriously ill or even die. It’s imperative vitamins and all manner of medication be kept out of the reach of children.
Generic multivitamins are fine if you think your child needs it but for the most part, children get most of their vitamins from their diets. If you child has special needs such not being able to drink milk or eat dairy products or not liking them s/he will still need to get the calcium from other sources. Consult with your child’s pediatrician for advice.
No commentsToday you have a good chance of getting diabetes or becoming obese or both. And if you do, then chances are you will be in for a long life filled with pain, discomfort and little quality in your life. However, it does not have to come to that.
Hi, my name is Greg Ryan. I am a high profile fitness expert. With thousands of weight loss success stories under my belt, I am here to encourage you to start exercising to lower your body fat levels.
If you are reading this, you already know you have a problem. You just need to know how to fix it and where to go for help. How do you fix obesity?
First, obesity means, your total body weight is at least thirty percent fat. When this happens, everything starts shutting down. Two things must occur in order for this not to get worse; lose fat and gain muscle.
Lose Fat: Through exercise and eating better.
Gain Muscle: Through weight training and weight bearing cardiovascular exercising.
No commentsThe key to rapid muscle growth, is to perform all your exercises well outside your comfort zone. If you had performed the barbell curl to the point of complete and momentary exhaustion, instead of "copping out" at the tenth. Then your bicep muscles would be forced to work harder than normal. Much harder. As a result, they would grow and build size rapidly.
What matters here is not the number of repetitions performed beyond the initial ten. What’s most important is that you understand the reason behind the need to force yourself to work at higher levels of intensity. To produce the greatest possible muscle gains in the shortest possible time frame, you must continually strive to perform at a level well beyond your comfort zone.
If you perform a set of barbell curls until you can no longer lift the bar, no matter how hard you try, or how many pair of strides you split, then you will be involving the highest possible number of muscle fibers. It may not be the total number available, but it will be enough to produce massive increases in muscle size.
No commentsMusic, more than entertainment, has played an instrumental role in healing and harmonizing the mind, body and spirit. For thousands of years, the Vedic culture has used sound and music for body and mind balancing, health enhancement, healing promotion and encouragement of heightened awareness. The Greek mathematician, Pythagoras theorized that music diminished and even eradicated negative energy and emotions. Modern studies explicitly show that specific sounds and music do in fact, have documented, measurable and multiple healing benefits. Today’s medicine understands that all bodily functions, like breathing and pulse, work cyclically and rhythmically. It is these rhythms that are influenced and synchronized with certain music and sound patterns.
Music therapy, my favorite being classical, has become widly recognized since the early 1950s. Used for pain, migraines, cancer, stress, upset stomach, fatigue, depression and other, multiple disorders; music therapy can reduce heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, stress and anxiety. Most recently, music has been found to bolster the immune system and assists in harmonizing the symmetries in right and left frontal lobes of the brain, (in the case of mental disorders).

Weight loss is a goal for many people today, but cutting through all the hype and getting quality information can be difficult. Because of all the scientific jargon, it can be baffling to read detailed descriptions of how your body and metabolism work. But when it comes to weight loss, all you need to know is that your metabolism does basic math ? addition and subtraction; calories eaten and calories burned.
